Our Story

Shope & Assoc. co-founders Patrick and Molly Shope met as youngsters, dated in their teens and eventually married in their mid 20's.  Along the way, they pursued their respective dreams. As a competitive swimmer, Molly capitalized on her exceptional talent and determination by attending Eastern Michigan University on a full-ride scholarship.  Yep, she was quite a force to be reckoned with.  She broke some records and eventually won the Mid-American Conference in the Mile.  She furthered her passion and education by continuing to attend Eastern as a Graduate Assistant to the Women's Swim Team, completing her Masters in Communications.

Meanwhile, Patrick remained heavily immersed in the study of Economics at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  In addition, he devoted his free time to getting his feet wet working with a group of Advanced Financial Planners at American Express Financial Advisors.  Since the 5th grade, the passion for finance and economics never waned for Patrick.  It was then that his teacher, Mr.Leonard, introduced him to the concept of economics by using Monopoly money in the classroom as the means of exchange for a pencil, eraser, a piece of paper and even a break to the restroom (his first toll or tax).  Patrick had found his calling.  By fifteen he was joining his parents to their financial check-up meetings with their then, financial advisor.  Watching the interaction between them and as the years unfolded, Patrick began to realize great investments, measured in numbers, are just the starting point. The real significance of financial wealth is measured by “the opportunities it creates and the good it can do,” rather than just its face value. Think about that: Is your wealth doing all it could be for you and your future?  With fervor and zeal to make his mark in personal finance, Patrick took the initiative to become securities and insurance licenced during his senior year of college.  Patrick and Molly were now getting older, their dreams were getting bigger and the pursuit of happiness was becoming clearer.

By 2008, Molly had now spent several years in a management position, before taking a break to care for their child.  It was in that position where she spent her time creating and applying a client relationship model exceeding all expectations on every front.  She clearly understood the impact of deep relationships woven together by listening to her client's needs and delivering more than they expected.  By this time, Patrick had now spent thirteen years serving the needs of his clients, co-founding and founding two other financial services firms and integrating an estate planning law practice into the fold of a regional financial services firm.  He had spent some time working in the walls of the "wirehouse" establishment.  The journey was intense, highly demanding and required true grit.  The formation of a better mousetrap was in desperate need.  One that goes far beyond simply investing your money, one that will help you realize a true sense of accomplishment in life.
